Doormat at the door
Motivation:
I had learned that you can laser cut doormats and wanted to try it for myself.
Description:
I bought the cheapest doormat I could find at Ikea and used the recommend laser settings from epilogue. The doormats from home depot and target seem to work better.
Lessons Learned:
Parts of the doormat definitely caught on fire. I made two, and surprisingly, the first one turned out better. I suspect this is partially a result of using such a cheap doormat and the fibers not all being the same. Using a laser with the option to turn off the air assist may have been helpful as the air assist was just stroking the small parts that were burning.
I made a second doormat with the family dog for my mom for mothers day. The recommended settings were way too high for that particular door mat, but it was much less cancer smelling than the Ikea mats. Misting the doormat helped as well as lowering power settings.
